These crock pot French onion meatballs are rich, savory, and perfect for weeknight dinners or meal prep. Whether you’re using frozen meatballs or homemade, this slow cooker recipe delivers flavor with ease.
Ingredients
- 1 bag frozen meatballs (turkey, beef, or plant-based, ~32 oz)
- 2 large yellow onions, thinly sliced
- 3 cups low-sodium beef broth
- 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp thyme
- 1 bay leaf
- 1 cup shredded Gruyère or provolone cheese (optional)
- Fresh parsley for garnish
Instructions
- 1. Add sliced onions to bottom of crock pot.
- 2. Place frozen meatballs on top of onions.
- 3. In a bowl, whisk beef broth, Worcestershire, garlic powder, onion powder, pepper, and thyme.
- 4. Pour mixture over meatballs and add bay leaf.
- 5. Cover and cook on low for 6–7 hours (or high for 3–4).
- 6. Remove bay leaf. Stir gently and top with cheese if using.
- 7. Cover for 5–10 minutes to melt cheese.
- 8. Serve with crusty bread, over rice, or roasted veggies.
- 9. Garnish with parsley before serving.
Notes
- Use frozen meatballs directly from freezer no thawing needed.
- For higher protein, choose meatballs with 12g+ protein per serving.
- This dish freezes well for up to 3 months.
